Christopher O. Barnes named HHMI Freeman Hrabowski Scholar

Christopher O. Barnes, an assistant professor in the Department of Biology, has been named a 2025 Freeman Hrabowski Scholar by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). The award recognizes early-career scientists who show leadership capabilities and who create lab environments that allow everyone to thrive. Barnes specializes in understanding the body's reaction to viruses and uses that knowledge to design better treatments and vaccines.
