Herbert Clark receives Rumelhart Prize

Herbert Clark, the Albert Ray Lang Professor in Psychology, Emeritus, has won the David E. Rumelhart Prize for 2027. The award recognizes those who have made significant contributions to the theoretical foundations of human cognition. Clark was honored for work that has reshaped theories of communication by demonstrating that speaking and understanding language are forms of joint action, requiring speakers and listeners to continuously coordinate, establish common ground, and negotiate meaning in real time.
