Portrait of Judith Frydman

Judith Frydman, the Donald Kennedy Chair in the School of Humanities and Sciences and a professor in the Department of Biology, is part of a multinational team that has been awarded a European Research Council ERC Synergy Grant. These grants are given to researchers who tackle ambitious problems with the aim of pushing the boundary of scientific knowledge. Frydman’s project, CHAPEROME, aims to uncover how molecular folding helpers—known as chaperones—work together with the translation machinery to keep cells functional and adaptable. It will uncover how chaperones and translation factors dynamically cooperate to help cells cope with stress and changing physiological demands. The project could provide insights into cellular specialization, development, and disease.
