Steven Block, the Stanford W. Ascherman, M.D. Professor, Emeritus, and professor, emeritus, in the Department of Applied Physics and the Department of Biology, has been awarded the 2025 Benjamin Franklin Medal in Life Science from the Franklin Institute. Block was recognized for his work in developing methods and applications for nanoscale manipulations with light (called "optical tweezers") to demonstrate biological mechanisms.
