Shelley Fisher Fishkin, the Joseph S. Atha Professor of Humanities and professor of English, has won the Susanne M. Glasscock Book Prize for her book Jim: The Life and Afterlives of Huckleberry Finn's Comrade. Given by the Melbern G. Glasscock Center for Humanities Research at Texas A&M University, the prize celebrates works of original, interdisciplinary humanities scholarship that appeal to both academic and wider audiences. Jim was recognized for giving a global and comprehensive new understanding about the character from Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn that speaks to a range of audiences from high school students to academic scholars.
