H&S Summer Research Programs
H&S Summer Research Programs are designed for undergraduate students who aspire to attend doctoral research programs and become leaders in their scholarly fields. As the future of academia is increasingly diverse and interdisciplinary, we seek outstanding students who will promote and/or contribute to more inclusive and equitable communities that will enhance their fields.
Student researchers spend eight weeks during the summer working intensely with Stanford faculty, post-docs, and graduate students as they learn to plan and conduct research in the humanities, social sciences, or natural sciences. They also attend a weekly seminar that prepares them to apply for and succeed in graduate programs. Students prepare a written abstract and poster presentation at the end of the program. This is a fully residential program that provides room and board, round-trip travel, and a stipend.
Stanford-CUNY Summer Research Institute
The Summer Institute is a part of an ongoing collaboration in the Stanford-CUNY Exchange Program. Students with exemplary academic records and an interest in graduate study in the humanities are selected by their faculty at CCNY or Hunter College to conduct research with a Stanford faculty member as a research mentor. In addition, students participate in a weekly seminar on research methods in the humanities led by a Stanford faculty member, and are matched with a writing tutor to improve their writing skills.
Leadership Alliance’s Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR-EIP)
The Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR-EIP) is open to undergraduates from across the country who are studying a wide range of fields (life and physical sciences, social and behavioral sciences, and the humanities) and who apply through the Leadership Alliance. Participants are selected based on their academic achievement, previous research experience, commitment to pursue graduate education, and match of interest with an available Stanford faculty mentor. SR-EIP participants present initial results of their research at the Leadership Alliance National Research Symposium in July.
Cal-Bridge
The Cal-Bridge Summer Program is for students from California State Universities and California community colleges who are studying STEM fields, including physics, astronomy, computer science, and computer engineering. Students conduct research at one of the research institutions affiliated with this program, including Stanford.
