Sharon Long wins International Prize for Biology
Sharon Long, the William C. Steere, Jr. - Pfizer Inc. Professor in Biological Sciences, has been received the 42nd International Prize for Biology from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. The prize aims to promote the biological sciences and commemorates the 60th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Showa and his long-standing research in biology. Long was selected for this award in recognition of her work elucidating the mechanisms that allow bacteria called rhizobia and their host plants to select each other and form a symbiotic relationship.
