National awards recognize outstanding research by faculty

Recently, scholars in Stanford’s School of Humanities and Sciences have been honored with distinguished national and international awards in recognition of outstanding research and creativity in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences.

In chronological order of the announcements:

Wolf Prize in Mathematics

Mathematics professor Yakov "Yasha" Eliashberg was awarded the Wolf Prize in Mathematics for his contributions to differential geometry and topology.

Johan Skytte Prize in Political Science

Political science professor David Laitin was awarded the most prestigious prize in political science for his influential research on how culture guides political behavior.

Award of Merit for the Novel

English professor Chang-rae Lee is only the fifteenth novelist to have received the Award of Merit for the Novel by the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Guggenheim Fellowships

Five Stanford H&S faculty were awarded Guggenheim Fellowships: R. Lanier Anderson, Vincent Barletta, Enrique Chagoya, Lochlann Jain, and Jonathan A. Rodden.

American Academy of Arts and Sciences

Four Stanford H&S faculty were elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, one of the country's oldest and most prestigious honorary learned societies: Robert Byer, Yakov "Yasha" Eliashberg, John Etchemendy, and Chang-rae Lee.

National Academy of Sciences

Four Stanford H&S faculty were elected to the National Academy of Sciences in recognition of their outstanding contributions to research: Savas Dimopoulos, Judith Frydman, Kathryn "Kam" Moler, and John Rickford.
